Whether you are selling Gift Cards through an add-on page on your website or using Gift Cards as a way to apply a single credit card transaction to batch of corporate orders in our Bulk Orders tool, you will need to add a Gift Card product in your Offset Commerce account.

Creating a Gift Card for Online Purchasing

Note that in order to sell Gift Cards online, you'll need to first add a Gift Card page to your website, which is a paid add-on. See this linked article for more details and reach out to our Client Experience team at [email protected] or through our in-app chat widget if you'd like to add this page to your site.

  1. Create a new product

  2. Set the product type as "Gift Card"

  3. Choose a product name that will make sense to customers when it displays in their receipt

  4. Enter the SKU as: gift-card

  5. Price is arbitrary

  6. Choose a large round quantity like 1,000

  7. Click Save

IMPORTANT: For online purchasing, out platform specifically looks for the SKU gift-card so it knows which specific product to sell when someone places a Gift Card purchase on your site.

Creating a Gift Card for Bulk Order Processing

If you are looking to create a single credit card transaction that applies to multiple orders using our Bulk Orders tool, you'll need to add a Gift Card product so we can sell that product to your client and automatically apply it to the orders. See the linked article for more information on our Bulk Orders Tool.

  1. Create a new product

  2. Set the product type as "Gift Card"

  3. Choose a product name that will make sense to your purchaser on their receipt like "Corporate Gift Orders"

  4. Choose a SKU name

  5. Price is arbitrary

  6. Choose a large round quantity like 1,000

  7. Click Save

IMPORTANT: After adding your Gift Card product for Bulk Order Credit Card Processing, you'll need to select it in Settings > More > POS, Admin, & Bulk so the app knows which one to use for Bulk Orders.

Automatically Selected Gift Card Product Attributes

Because Gift Cards are different from other types of products, when you select the product type of "Gift Card" a number of other product fields are configured automatically and can't be changed.

  1. Discount eligible = NO

  2. Tax exempt = YES

  3. Credits exempt = YES

  4. Shipping included = YES

  5. Visibility = HIDDEN

NOTE: Gift Cards themselves are ineligible for discounts when purchased, but eligible products in orders paid for by Gift Cards are eligible for discounts.
